Coal is the world's second most important fuel, after oil, accounting for around 26% of energy demand. Global reserves of coal-bed methane, also known as coal seam gas, are huge.
As a number of countries start to view coal as the viable option to alleviate concerns regarding energy imports and energy supply security, we can help you find the optimal solution to monetize coal, we're working with clients to convert their coal assets into three product groups:
- Power
Conventional coal-fired thermal plants and also IGCC, which gasifies coal into syngas that is
then fired to produce power when routed through a combined cycle plant.
- Chemicals
Coal-to-chemicals is emerging as an exciting coal monetization route. We're working with clients to develop their plans for facilities to produce a widening range of chemicals, including new processes such as methanol-to-olefins.
We're leading the way working with clients on projects using indirect coal liquefaction to gasify coal to create syngas, which is fed into a Fischer-Tropsch reactor and then further processed to produce a
wide range of fuels including gasoline and diesel. We've also been involved in the development of solutions to monetize significant coal seam gas reserves, primarily via LNG.
