Combustion Optimization with ECT
ECT, or Electric Charge Transfer, is the latest addition to our suite of upgrade and modernization services. ECT is a patented static charge analysis system that provides accurate measurement of pulverized coal flow, velocity and particle size.
The information provided from an ECT system allows you to improve coal distribution and fineness so you can lower heat rate by reducing unburned carbon and excess air. ECT velocity measurements allow operators to reduce primary air flow for a corresponding reduction in parasitic power. These improvements have also been shown to even superheat temperature profiles and balance ash loading.
With ECT your boiler can be fine tuned to minimize NOx and CO at levels certain to maintain compliance with your local DEC. Depending on the composition of your coal, you can also expect to increase tube life with reductions in slagging and localized corrosion.
ECT measures mass flow every 7.5 milliseconds so changes that result from pluggage, layout and recirculation are instantly detected and reported. This means that an ECT system will notify you of burner and conduit problems that could give rise to windbox/pipe fires and other types of furnace upsets.
While this all seems too good to be true it isn't. ECT has been simply and successfully installed in dozens of units worldwide and the list is growing rapidly. ECT systems can be commissioned without a unit outage in about a weeks' time. They are designed to minimize real estate and wiring while being robust enough to provide reliable operation in the harshest environments. They are effective as standalone systems or as an integral element of your DCS and always complement your air distribution and low NOx burner solutions.
