Phil
joined FW in September 1979 after graduating from Southampton University with
a degree in Civil Engineering. Recruited into the Construction Department and
following the graduate training scheme, through a number of site and home-office
based assignments, he achieved chartered status in 1982. FWs commitment to training
did not stop there, and between 1991 and 1992, Phil participated in The Engineering
Construction Industry Training Board Site Construction Management Fellowship
programme. Based on the modular MBA, the Fellowship programme is designed to
provide the industries potential senior managers with broader management and
business skills, in addition to the specialist skills they acquire through job
based training and experience. Since successfully completing the fellowship
programme, Phil has managed the construction of a number of major projects around
the world.
"I originally joined FW as a graduate, as I felt
it offered a wider range of opportunities and a faster paced environment than
the traditional UK Civil Engineering Industry; which was the chosen path of
many of my contemporaries from Southampton. Successfully managing the construction
of capital assets for major international clients is extremely challenging,
requiring considerable personal commitment as well as a much broader range of
skills than I ever conceived when joining the company as a graduate.
FWs
success as a company, its ability to provide comprehensive training, a wide
variety of work experience and a range of career opportunities, enables it to
develop people capable of meeting these challenges; who, in turn, will ensure
the companys continued success in the future. As for my own future .well,
while the future is never certain, it will certainly always be interesting!
