Partial Oxidation (Gasification)

Investing in technology such as gasification can be a very complex decision. At Foster Wheeler, with our unparalleled expertise, we are well placed to carry out feasibility studies and investment analysis through to design and construction projects.

Our experience in partial oxidation (gasification) technologies spans over 45 years. We have designed and constructed 20 plants and over 50 individual partial oxidation generator trains at the cutting edge of technology development, more than any other engineering company.

For ISAB Energy (now ERG Power and Gas) in Italy, we provided engineering services for a large gasification combined cycle plant (IGCC) based on solvent extracted visbroken vacuum residue feed. The unit produces 512 MWe of power and up to 20,000 nm3 of high purity hydrogen for the adjacent refinery complex. Our involvement included feasibility studies, basic design of non-licensed units, integration design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operation up to successful performance test.

The Piemsa project in Spain, which produces 800 MWe from visbroken vacuum residue, involved a gas turbine selection study prior to producing a basic engineering design package and providing management services to the project.
